Growing Love - Maternity Photography

A heartfelt maternity photo session celebrating your pregnancy journey, to remember where it all began.

... with Cheltenham Photographer Verity Lacey

Pregnancy doesn’t last very long, but it holds so much. One minute it’s just the two of you, the next you’re imagining tiny socks in the laundry and wondering who this little person will be.

Before your baby arrives, there is this quiet, beautiful moment where your story is still just the two of you… and the tiny heartbeat that is about to change everything.

It can also feel like a vulnerable time. Your body is changing, life is shifting, and being in front of a camera can feel a little daunting.

When you book a maternity session with me, it will feel more like welcoming a friend along for a walk. I’ll chat with you, keep things relaxed, and create a space where you can simply be yourselves.

What your maternity session feels like

These sessions are calm and unhurried. They are not about perfectly posed photographs. We'll wander through the Cotswold landscape or cosy up at your home, chat, laugh a little, and you'll hold your bump naturally without even thinking about it.

I will gently guide you into the best light to achieve beautiful portraits and give you prompts when you need them, but mostly I am watching for the small things. The way your partner looks at you. A quiet hand resting on your back. The way you instinctively cuddle into each other for reassurance.

And one day, when that little baby you were carrying is running around the house, these photographs will take you right back to the beginning of it all.

I usually advise that you book your maternity session between 30-34 weeks pregnant. By this stage you will have a gorgeous bump to show off but also feel comfortable to move around with ease.

Don't stress about what to wear

Think about the clothes you feel happiest in right now ... The soft knits, comfy jeans, loose shirts or empire line dresses. You might even like to capture a few bare bump moments or you might not. That is totally your decision.

Once you book, you'll receive a welcome guide to help make your outfit choices feel easy and stress-free. I also have a collection of flattering dresses designed to make you feel great and showcase your bump.

FAQ

When should I book?

Most people get in touch to book your maternity session around your 20 week scan. The session is optimal around 28-36 weeks when your bump is showing fuller but you are not uncomfortable.

Where are you based and do you travel?

I am based near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. I will travel in and around Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire and The Cotswolds.

I am worried I will feel awkward in front of the camera?

If I am honest most people worry they will be awkward in front of the camera.

I spend time getting to you and your family ahead of the session so that when we meet at the location it feels like meeting a friend.

I'll keep things super relaxed and chatty to gently guide you into the most flattering positions. Using prompts to get you to relax and connect with your little baby.

What time of day do maternity sessions happen?

If we are shooting the session in-home then around 10am usually works best. The light is soft and beautiful at that time.

If we are heading outdoors, then the last hour before sunset will give us the most flattering light.

Who can be involved?

For a maternity photo session, it's lovely for the session to focus on you and your partner's love or you can do the session solo.

If you already have children they are SO welcome to come along to the session. This photo session is about the growing love between you all.

Where do your sessions take place?

I hold my maternity photo sessions in two places: in-home or outdoors.

In-home means that I come to your home and your space is the backdrop to your photos. I think it's the perfect place where you are most comfortable.

Outdoor sessions are slightly more adventurous. I use a number of beautiful locations here in the Cotswolds. Once your booking is confirmed, I will share with you my location guide which takes you through all the options so you can choose the right location for you.

Two chapters, one beautiful beginning.

Having already had a maternity photo shoot with me, we'll have got to know each other so your newborn session will feel even more like a friend just popping over for a catch up.

If you book both a Growing Love & Our First Days session at the same time. You'll receive the same upgrade you choose in both sessions but only pay it once.
