Where the Wildflowers Grow: Photographer’s Spring Diary
There’s something about this time of year that feels like a fresh start.
The air is warmer. The days are longer. The hedgerows are bursting into bloom. Everything feels a little lighter, a little more alive.
Spring and early summer are some of my favourite seasons for family photography—not just because of the soft golden light or the meadows full of wildflowers (though those are pretty magical), but because this season holds so much possibility.
Children run a little freer. Parents breathe a little deeper. And together, we create space for connection—just as you are.

My favourite wildflower locations in and around Cheltenham
Right now, the countryside around Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, and Herefordshire is transforming by the day. The rapeseed fields are still glowing yellow. Cow parsley froths along the lanes. Buttercups scatter the grass. Dandelion clocks are ready for little ones to blow. And very soon, the oxeye daisies will rise—tall, white, and quietly breathtaking.
While bluebell season and the fruit blossom have now passed, their memory lingers. I feel so lucky to have secured permission for two private, tucked-away locations—one carpeted in bluebells in spring, and another framed by delicate apple blossom. These spots are undisturbed, and utterly stunning. The kind of places where you can simply soak in the peace.

If you’re based in or around Cheltenham, I also have a hidden gem right in the middle of town: a small, meadow filled with waving grasses and wildflowers. It’s perfect for a relaxed, local summer session—easy to get to, but still full of that wild, unspoiled feeling.

And then there’s the daisy field—stretching wide across the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire border. When the oxeye daisies bloom, the whole field turns into a sea of soft white and green. It’s majestic. The light at sunset here is golden and gentle, and it makes the most magical backdrop for joyful, relaxed family photos.

For families who fancy a bit more adventure, I’ve also scouted a fern-filled woodland in Herefordshire where the foxgloves will bloom in June. It’s a little further afield, but absolutely worth it. The light filters through the trees earlier in the evening, casting a gentle glow—and the whole place feels like something out of a storybook.

These fleeting blooms and hidden corners create the most beautiful backdrops for family, maternity, or newborn photography. Whether we’re in a wide open field or a peaceful forest, the natural setting does most of the work for us. You just show up and be yourselves.
I’ll guide you gently. Keep things relaxed. And together, we’ll create images that feel like you.
If you’re dreaming of family photos that feel natural and joyful—whether in a daisy-filled meadow, fern-covered woodland, or a hidden corner of wildflowers—I have a handful of weekend golden-hour sessions coming up and would love to document your memories amongst the beautiful backdrop of nature's finest blooms in The Cotswolds.
